Site Visit to Chellanam Tetrapod Seawall Project
As part of the activities of ICI student’s chapter of ICET, two site visits were arranged on Saturday, December 10, 2022.
Chellanam Tetrapod Seawall Project Phase-1 is part of the scientific coastal protection activities in ten hotspots in Kerala coast, which includes construction of sea wall and network of breakwaters using tetrapods. This is a 344.20 crore project prepared by Chennai based National Centre for Coastal Research [NCCR]. Project is under irrigation department, with the financial assistance of KIIFB and implemented by Kerala Irrigation Infrastructure Development Corporation. It is a 6.2 m high, 24 wide walls with a 3 m wide sea facing walkway to exploit tourism potential too. The project is executed by Uralungal Labour Contract Cooperative Society [ULCCS]. 34 students and 5 faculty members visited the site.
