The Department of Computer Applications was established in 2008 with an intake of 60 Students. MCA Department, right from its inception, has been maintaining a good track record in all areas of academics and non-academics. It serves with the prime objectives of educating and preparing learners as dynamic professionals so that they can compete in the present global situation.

In addition to the regular curriculum, the Department conducts technical seminars, workshops, and industrial visits to expose the learners to the real-world environment. The placement cell of the department constantly organizes training programs for learners in communication skills, aptitude, reasoning ability, group discussion skills, etc. A good number of our final year learners and alumni are placed in reputed organizations like Wipro, IBS, Speridian and ClaySys through the Campus Recruitment Drives. 

In addition to the facilities of the central library, we have a department library that stocks a wide range of books, journals, magazines, and other publications related to Computer Applications.

LABORATORY

The MCA Lab is a well-equipped computing facility that supports the academic and practical needs of Master of Computer Applications (MCA) students. It features high-performance computers with updated software, programming tools, and development environments essential for exploring software development, database management, web technologies, and data analytics. Emphasizing hands-on learning, the lab allows students to apply theoretical concepts through practical sessions, mini-projects, and real-time applications. It also serves as a venue for coding practice, workshops, and technical training, helping students enhance their technical skills and industry readiness. The lab fosters innovation, problem-solving, and continuous learning in the field of computer science and application development.

The MCA classrooms are modern, air-conditioned learning spaces designed to provide a comfortable and focused academic environment for Master of Computer Applications students. These classrooms are equipped with advanced teaching aids such as projectors, smart boards, and high-speed internet to support interactive and technology-enabled learning. The air-conditioning ensures a pleasant atmosphere, enhancing student concentration and engagement during lectures, seminars, and discussions. Spacious, well-ventilated, and ergonomically arranged, the MCA  classrooms promote effective teaching, collaborative learning, and overall academic excellence.

The MCA Department Library is a dedicated academic resource center that supports the learning and research needs of students and faculty within the department. It houses a curated collection of textbooks, reference books, project reports, journals, and technical magazines relevant to the curriculum and current trends in the field. The library offers a quiet and organized environment for study and research, encouraging students to explore beyond classroom learning. With comfortable seating and proper lighting, it serves as a valuable space for academic enrichment, knowledge enhancement, and preparation for competitive exams or research activities.

Chief Minister’s Student Excellence Award Achievement

We are proud to announce that our student, Ms. Shefeena Haris, has been honored with the Chief Minister’s Student Excellence Award for her outstanding academic performance in the undergraduate examinations conducted by the universities in the State of Kerala during the academic year 2023–2024.

We are proud to share that the S2 students of the 2025–2027 batch participated in CAMEO 2026, the prestigious tech fest hosted by Nirmala College of Arts And Science Muvattupuzha.

Our students delivered an outstanding performance and brought home top honors:

Iftar Virunne 2026

The Department of Computer Applications successfully organized Iftar Virunne 2026 on 4 March 2026 at the MCA Block. The event brought together students and faculty members to celebrate the spirit of Ramadan, fostering unity, friendship, and cultural harmony. The gathering served as a memorable occasion that strengthened the sense of community within the department and reflected the values of togetherness and mutual respect.

 

Confidence Catalyst 

Confidence Catalyst was a two-day Orientation and Personality Development Programme organized for first-year students to support their smooth transition into college life and enhance their personal and professional competencies. Conducted at the College Auditorium, the programme focused on developing self-confidence, effective communication, leadership skills, teamwork, and a positive outlook among students.

The sessions were facilitated by Prasidh Prasad, Corporate trainer and perfomance coach who engaged participants through interactive activities, group discussions, practical exercises, and motivational sessions. Students were encouraged to identify their strengths, build self-belief, and cultivate the skills necessary for success in both academic and personal spheres.

The programme offered a dynamic learning environment that promoted self-discovery, active participation, and meaningful interaction among students. It helped participants enhance their communication and interpersonal skills, develop leadership qualities, and gain the confidence to embrace new opportunities and challenges throughout their college journey.

 

Unlock the Power of Data – Workshop on Data Analytics Using Python

The Department of MCA organized a hands-on workshop titled “Unlock the Power of Data” for S3 MCA students on 7th August at the MCA Laboratory. The workshop was designed to introduce students to the fundamentals of Data Analytics using Python, with a strong focus on practical learning and real-world applications.

The session was led by Suhaila, an alumna of the Department of MCA and a corporate trainer at Computer Park. She shared her expertise in data analytics, guiding students through key concepts such as data processing, visualization, and interpretation using Python.

The workshop provided an interactive, practice-oriented learning experience where students worked with real datasets and explored how data can be transformed into meaningful insights. Participants also gained exposure to essential Python tools and techniques widely used in the field of data analytics.

Unlock the Power of Data successfully helped students connect theoretical concepts with practical applications, inspiring them to explore the field of data analytics with greater confidence and interest.

LaTeX Workshop

The Department of MCA conducted a LaTeX Workshop for S3 MCA students to familiarize them with professional document preparation and technical writing using LaTeX. The session was led by Dr. Abhiraj T.K., Head of the Department of Electrical And Electronics Engineering of our college, who shared his expertise on creating structured and professionally formatted academic and technical documents.

The workshop provided hands-on training in document formatting, mathematical equations, tables, references, and report preparation using LaTeX. The session enabled students to enhance their technical documentation skills and gain valuable knowledge for academic projects, research work, and professional report writing.

 

Project Pulse – Igniting Innovation

The Department of MCA organized Project Pulse – Igniting Innovation, a programme designed for S3 MCA students to inspire innovative thinking and provide guidance on project development and research-oriented learning. The session aimed to encourage students to explore emerging technologies, identify real-world problems, and develop creative solutions through meaningful project work.

The programme was led by Prof. Biju Skaria, Head of the Department of MCA at Mar Athanasius College. Drawing from his academic expertise and industry insights, he shared valuable perspectives on project planning, innovation, research methodologies, and the importance of developing impactful technology solutions.

The interactive session encouraged students to think beyond conventional approaches, refine their project ideas, and understand the significance of creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving in successful project execution. Participants also gained insights into current technological trends, project management strategies, and best practices for developing quality academic projects.

5-Day Workshop on Power BI & Basic SQL

The Department of MCA at Ilahia College of Engineering and Technology, Muvattupuzha, in association with Voleergo Solutions LLP, organized a five-day hands-on workshop on Power BI and Basic SQL, starting on April 28, 2025.

This workshop aims to equip students with essential skills in data analysis, reporting, and database querying vital competencies in today’s data-driven tech industry.

Takjil Iftar Party – A Moment of Togetherness

On March 13, the Department of MCA at Ilahia College of Engineering and Technology hosted a serene and heartwarming Takjil Iftar Party at the MCA Block.

This special gathering was organized to mark the spirit of Ramadan—a time for reflection, community, and generosity. Students and staff came together to break the fast, share blessings, and celebrate unity in diversity.

The event featured traditional iftar delicacies, a warm atmosphere of fellowship, and thoughtful moments that reinforced the importance of empathy and cultural harmony.

Workshop on Data Dynamics

The Department of MCA at Ilahia College of Engineering and Technology organized an engaging workshop titled “Data Dynamics”, aimed at exploring the evolving trends and practical approaches in handling and analyzing data in the era of AI and machine learning.

The session was led by Ms. Leena, Senior AI Consultant at iDatalytics, who shared insights into data flow, dynamic modeling techniques, and real-world AI applications. Students gained hands-on exposure and professional insights valuable for their future careers.

 Frosh Fiesta ’24 – Inauguration of the 19th MCA Batch (2024–2026)

The Department of MCA at Ilahia College of Engineering and Technology proudly hosted Frosh Fiesta ’24, the official inauguration ceremony for the 19th MCA batch (2024–2026).

The event featured an inspiring keynote address on the topic “Debug Your Mind” delivered by the distinguished Prof. (Dr.) Ali M A, Former Professor & Head, Government Engineering College, Thrissur. His thought-provoking session encouraged students to cultivate clarity, resilience, and a positive mindset as they embark on their professional journey.

Path to Hire Know Yourself to find your best

The Department of MCA, Ilahia College of Engineering and Technology, Muvattupuzha, successfully conducted a career-oriented workshop titled “Path to Hire” on Friday, November 29, 2024.This inspiring session focused on self-discovery, career readiness, and understanding the journey from student to professional. Mr. Arjun shared insightful tips on identifying individual strengths, setting career goals, and strategically navigating the hiring landscape.

Faculty advisors are experienced professionals dedicated to guiding and mentoring students throughout their academic journey. They provide valuable support and guidance on academic, personal, and professional matters. The following are the role and responsibilities of Mentor system.
  • The Mentor should monitor the performance of the students in tests and university examinations and also note their behaviour.
  • The students should take the prior permission of the Mentor before they are absent themselves from classes. They have to submit a leave note for the absence for a period / day / days to the Mentor.
  • The students will have to meet their Mentor when they are called for.
  • The mentor must meet their ward at least once in a month.
