The department started in the year 2002 and for the first three years, it functioned as infrastructure development and supporting department to other departments. In 2005, B.Tech in Civil Engineering was started with an intake of 60 students and the department started to function in a full-fledged manner.

Ilahia College of Engineering and Technology launched its Working Professional programs in Civil Engineering in the year 2023. These programs are offered at both the B.Tech and M.Tech levels, with an intake capacity of 30 students for B.Tech and 15 students for M.Tech.

The primary objective of these programs is to provide an opportunity for professionals who were unable to pursue a formal degree earlier in their careers. The B.Tech Working Professionals program is based on the Lateral Entry Test (LET) conducted by LBS Centre for Science & Technology.

By offering these tailored programs, Ilahia College enables many aspiring engineers to realize their long-held dream of obtaining a professional engineering degree while continuing their careers.

The department is blessed with highly qualified, experienced and dedicated faculty members, without whom the achievements were never possible. Non-teaching staff members are also having good teaching and industrial experience. They are capable of handling any lab, which is highly beneficial to the students. The Department has state-of-the-art laboratories with vast area, machinery, equipment, and other facilities. In addition to high-quality teaching and instruction, the department offers technical consultancy services also. Testing facilities are provided for different construction materials in the Material Testing laboratory and Transportation Engineering laboratory.

We are proud that the Environmental Engineering Laboratory of the department is a Government of Kerala approved Testing Center. We are entitled to conduct all sorts of tests and issue certificates to the public.

Moreover, the department is constantly trying to build strong interactions with the industry. Our clients include private firms, industries, Government Departments, and the general public. The Department of Civil Engineering is highly committed to the interdisciplinary academic, research, and co-curricular activities of the institute. The department is dedicated to providing the students good understanding of Civil Engineering solutions in a global, social, and environmental context, consistent with the principles of sustainable development.

The department concentrates on the academic activities and gives motivation to students in cultural and extracurricular activities also. Present college football team consists of students of Civil Engineering Department. All the students of our department play an active role in social service activities in and around the area.

Students Develop Innovative Plastic Tile”Plastic Waste Transformed into Tiles

The article reports that our s8 students f have successfully created a tile using plastic waste, showcasing a novel approach to plastic recycling. As part of their project, they collected plastic waste and processed it into durable construction tiles. The students worked under the guidance of their faculty as part of a sustainability initiative. The project received attention for its environmental relevance and practical application in combating plastic pollution. These plastic tiles could serve as an eco-friendly alternative to conventional construction materials. The college administration and other faculty members appreciated the effort, and the success was seen as a significant contribution to green innovation and circular economy goals.

A final year student project, titled “Design of Filter-bed for the Treatment of Grey water from Rice Industry”, has received financial assistance of ₹27000 under the CERD scheme of APJAKTU. This project was developed by Afnan O A, Ashik Basheer, Dulkar Salman Shaji, and Hazna Asharafi, all students of S8 Civil Engineering. The initiative is guided by Dr. Shaina Beegam N, Professor and Principal Investigator, and Ms. Shifana U N, Assistant Professor and Co-Investigator, from the Department of Civil Engineering.

This recognition highlights the team’s commitment to addressing real-world environmental challenges through sustainable engineering solutions. The funding marks a significant achievement and supports innovation in water treatment technology within the rice industry context.
