Projects

JARVIS

This project is a prototype of popular "Home Automation " concept. The project is carried out aropund the famous electronic prototyping board "Arduino Mega 2560" and c-sharp(c#) programming language. High power devices working on AC voltage such as CFL bulb, wall fab abd a television are connected to the arduino board through a 5v relay. The project mainly has two parts,

  • A computer system that process speech and send commands to the arduino board connected to it through serial communication.
  • Arduino board receives input from the system and takes actions corresponding (the appliance to be turned "ON" or "OFF" is decided from the input received).

The computer system has the compiled c# program which recognizes the words said using a speech recognition library and sends corresponding signals to the arduino through built in serial communication class. The arduino board is programmed in “processing" laguage to send HIGH or LOW signal to each appliance in the relay depending on the signal received. Apart from the relay, an IR LED is also used to the arduino board. Its purpose is to send IR signals to turn ON the TV, the arduino board can only provide power to the television, 2 seconds after powering the TV, the IR LED sends signals to actually turn ON the TV.

LASER DODGE

A laser path created and an alarm linked to it. If somebody tries to break the laser path, then an alarm will be generated.

The main component of the laser dodge project is

1. Laser pen: This is used as the light source in the project. Mirrors are used to reflect the beam from the pen to create multiple beams in the room.

2. Light detector circuits: This circuit consists of mainly two parts

1. Monostable circuit: This circuit is used to create 15 seconds long beep sound once the laser beam is interrupted. This circuit is achieved using IC which has wide range of use. The time delay of alarm is defined by the RC network in the circuit. When a negative trigger is given to this monostable circuit, the alarm will be turned on for 15 sec.

2. Darkness detector: This circuit is used to detect darkness, in this case to figure whether the beam is interrupted or not.

HOLOGRAM

Hologram works on the principles of Pepper's ghost effects. Pepper’s ghost is an illusion technique used in theatre amusement parks, museums, television and concerts. It is named after John Henry Pepper (1821-1900), a scientist who popularized the effect in a famed demonstration in 1862. Motion of the object in hologram is achieved using UNITY 3D, Gryoscope

LED CUBE

The project consists of building a 3 dimensional LED array that will be able to display various graphics through the concept of persistence of vision. There will be several options for display including non-directional animations and direction focused graphics. The array will be 32x32x32 LEDs, accounting for a total of 32768 LEDs.

A sturdy base and casing will also have to be provided for the array, as the construction doesn’t allow for a large amount of structural integrity. A wooden base and a Plexiglas case is proposed to deal with this issue and to protect the LED array from general jostling and movement. Due to the very large number of LEDs that need to be used at once, current considerations will have to be taken into account, verifying that we have enough power to supply a good level of luminescence so that we may not only turn on all LEDs.
